Aquent Announces Salary Monitor Findings For Marketing Communication And Creative Positions In Asia Pacific

Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane Included in Results

Sydney, Australia (June 13, 2003) — Aquent, a global professional services firm that delivers total staffing, search, and outsourcing solutions in the marketing, communications, and creative fields, has made available the findings of its 2003-2004 Asia Pacific Salary Monitor for marketing, communications, and creative positions. The Monitor was designed to study salary levels by geographic regions and by job positions in Asia Pacific. Surveying client companies and cross-referencing the information with internal job and talent data, Aquent has compiled a concise management resource, which covers 400 positions in seven disciplines - highlighting salaries in six cities.

Overall, marketing, communications, and design professionals in Sydney have higher salary packages than professionals in the same positions in Melbourne and Brisbane, with PR Agency Directors/Principals, Advertising CEOs/Managing Directors, and Media Directors earning significantly more than their counterparts in Melbourne and Brisbane.

“Generally speaking there has been little movement in salaries in the Communications and Creative disciplines over the past 12 months,“ explains Paul Slezak, Area Manager for Aquent’s Sydney market.

Greg Savage, Aquent CEO for Asia Pacific, provides a broader perspective. “In fact, in particularly depressed markets, such as Hong Kong and Singapore, we have seen salaries in Advertising and PR decline. The recent extra economic pain resulting from SARS is likely to keep salaries stagnant in those markets for a while longer too,” he said.

“In Australia, there has been little upward movement in Advertising salaries,” Slezak explains. “Decline in advertising budgets during 2002 really impacted the industry. Many senior executives were concentrating on retaining their jobs rather than pushing for increases. On the positive side, top talent in Marketing as well as other areas continue to attract a premium when it comes to remuneration.“

“Although it is true that marketing budgets have been trimmed in many cases,” Savage says, “it is also clear that big corporates want more ‘bang for their marketing buck.’ This means they are prepared to pay more for the best executives who are able to deliver measurable results—even if some of the upside for the employee is in the form of variable rewards such as bonuses.”

Nearly 400 different positions are listed in the Aquent Salary Monitor. For the full Monitor, which includes all positions and cities included in the survey, contact Paul Slezak, Area Manager in Sydney, at +61 2 9264 1888. Auckland, Singapore, and Hong Kong were other surveyed cities.
